Ascom’s NIS-3 is an IP-based solution for operational communications and security, which meets the specific requirements of transport operators. There is no longer any need for separate networks for voice, video and data, so significant cost savings are made available from only having to purchase, operate and maintain one network.
NIS-3 connects users to Help Points, CCTV (event- and operator-driven), PA, telephony (internal and external telephone networks), customer information, alarms (SCADA) and radio systems. Task delegation, load distribution and functional addressing support flexible working arrangements for control centres and customer information provision.
The basic element of the NIS-3 solution is the NIS-3 Communications switch. This is based on standard commercial server hardware and can be linked via an IP network. It offers excellent scalability, from the smallest system to large, all-encompassing installations.
The NIS-3 Operator Terminal (COP) is based on a panel PC with touch screen. The graphical user interface makes it easy and convenient to use, thus reducing on-going training needs. Standard IP telephony sets provide the normal telephone functions at office workstations.
